uncommon is a community set in boulder, colorado. however, we're not your typical city or town community. most characters are trying to live their day to day lives with some sort of superpower or mutated ability. we do allow normal humans in the community though we prefer they be connected closely with someone that has an ability (sibling, cousin, spouse, etc). uncommon will have lots of plots thrown into the mix, bad guys, etc. on top of normal city community type activities and day to day interactions. from an rp standpoint, we are writing and character development based. this means we want you to focus on your character. the type of people that will thrive here are the types that really want to develop their own character regardless of how many storylines they have or if they have a romantic one or not.

at uncommon you will be required to be active and friendly. you must post an update once a month and you must post something interactive on the fp at least once a month. it's up to you if it's in your journal or a sub-community. you can read the section about updates to find out what qualifies and what does not qualify as a passable update here. dead weight will not be tolerated. we want a community setting for many reasons! please do not fall into psls within the community. we will be actively looking for ways to do things where everyone can participate whether it's group threads, ffas, plot posts, etc. be friendly to all new members regardless of any connection your character may have with them and remember that sometimes organic interaction is the best interaction.

we allow most superpowers and mutations here! we do not allow abilities that make your character invincible and we do not allow powers that give your character complete control over another. for example, we are not allowing mind control at the moment. we feel that powers like this can get too messy when trying to plot things out. powers that means your character can have more than one, etc. as for other superpowers we do not have limits but do ask that you think outside of the box. you can scan many wikis regarding evolved powers, x-men type mutations or experimentations gone wrong to decide what you want to do. the classics are welcome as well. the taken list will list and reflect every character's ability. if you see one being used more than once, think about going a different route. we won't tell you no, however, if you do have your heart set on something else. please keep your character's powers/mutation limited to one per character at once unless they coincide with one another. an example of this would be enhanced strength and endurance. your character shouldn't have more than one differing power at once (shouldn't have the the abilty to create fire and fly, etc).

updates are an important part of character development. we encourage all sorts of updates here. narratives, hover narratives, photoshop updates, playlists, blog-style updates, etc. at the moment we don't even have a word count on written updates. for now we are leaving all updates in your hands. we ask that you use your best judgement when updating. we don't want to see this be taken advantage of. if we see the easy route being taken every month we'll enforce some stricter update requirements. try to post something substantial at least every other month if you can!

first and foremost, be respectful and do not cross any ic and ooc lines. we are sure everyone knows this but just in case, ic drama is fun but ooc drama is not. we're all here to do our own thing and hopefully the main goal is to just have fun. your journals should be in character. we do allow aim if you wish. if it becomes prominent enough in the community we'll compile a list but only after that happens. we welcome various character types here and encourage characters that aren't always so agreeable or reasonable. regarding storylines we do expect some realism despite the setting of the community. pregnancies are 9 months, if your character kills someone they will go to jail, etc. you can contact us if you have any concerns and we'll do our best to fairly and quickly solve any issues.

we are fully aware that this setting has been used in the past by older communities. we picked this location because we still feel it's different from the typical city and coastal type communities. we feel it's vibrant and diverse enough a place to set something like uncommon.
